Happy Twenty Ten!

So we're back in the studio!

I made it back from Thailand & Cambodia just in time for Christmas & the New Year.

I will of course be posting images from my amazing adventures soon...
just have some mega catching up to do first!
But really, if you've haven't traveled out that way before...
it was more incredible than you could ever imagine.
I'm ready to go back. Like - right now...

Here's an image from Phuket, Thailand ~ on our way out to the beautiful Phi Phi Island.

(On a side note : this picture was snapped with my little waterproof point and shoot... i didn't tweak the color one bit... it's straight out of camera. How amazing is that.)

This year has alot going on already! So stay tuned...

While in Thailand, we went to a Tiger Temple...

where we were able to pet the tigers.

Christmas Limited Edition Sessions

Holiday Deadlines!

Our schedule here at Cherished Portraits is booking up

faster than any procrastinator would like.

The holiday season is right around the corner.

We've had Christmas card orders coming in for months now.

Above is just a sample I thought I'd share.

And here's the scoop for anyone wanting to get in before the holiday deadlines.

SESSIONS: Any session that takes place after November 17th will ONLY have proofs in time for Christmas. Orders cannot be guaranteed.

ORDERS: The last day to place your order for “Ready in time for Christmas orders” is November 21st. After this date orders will not be guaranteed without a RUSH FEE.

This date is for orders without framing.

Framed orders will need additional time depending on the actual frame ordered.

The studio will be closed completely from December 3rd to January 3rd.
I will be out of the country for most of the month of December and will only be booking time sensitive sessions (newborns or maternity sessions) on December 23rd

(and possibly the 26th and 28th)… but completely on a limited basis.
All other inquiries for sessions in December will have the option of
booking for January or February 2010.

There will also be a holiday limited edition session day on Nov 7th

for those of you needing an updated Christmas portrait.

We'll post more details very soon.

So. With that being said - Christmas card orders are coming in like CRAZY!!

Seems like just the other day we were photographing this baby belly.
But it's already been a year! Wow... so crazy to me.

This is the sweet boy a whole year later.

On a side note :
Saturday appts are pretty much booked through

the first week of January.
We are scheduling later afternoon sessions during the week as late as 5:30 - until daylight savings (Oct 25th). We have some clients that are just checking kids out (if they need to) and coming after school (and or work).
So keep that in mind if your wanting to get in before the holidays!

Summer Bride

Kind of a funny little story behind how I met this bride…

For a long time a few years ago I was driving about 30 minutes to this manicurist that I had found – totally by chance I might add.
I’m a pretty picky individual (I can hear the snickers) when it comes to my nails (and really all kinds of things, but that’s not really the point). If you know me, you know I enjoy a good mani/pedi. Well one day I went in for a pedicure and my nail friend told me that it was her last week there. Oh no! I gasped.
Well she went on to tell me that she was going to be opening her own nail salon… “all the way out in Central”. “NO WAY! I live in Central” I was Sooooo excited!

Anyway.
Come to find out her salon is literally 3 minutes from my house.
No joke. It is the best thing ever! I bought gift certificates for friends and family as soon as she was open… and still enjoy my super short drive quite often :)

She was recently married and these are some
of the images that I adore.

Really. I should be.
There just seems to be SO MANY other things that I’m needing

(aka wanting) to do instead!
Of course, I will for sure have different feelings about this in a few hours

when I only give myself 20 minutes

to get up and get dressed

& get to the studio because I would rather push snooze

and try to assure myself that 20 minutes is PLENTY

enough time to do all of that, right!?!? LOL!

I had a really hard time deciding on which images
to post from this sweet baby doll’s session.

She had so many cute expressions… it was a tough job.

I'm loving that this outfit was what her mama wore home from the hospital.

Who doesn't love that!?!

...and of course the baby booty is so cute at this age... the dimples are still cute when they are on an itty bitty behind! hehe...

25 random things about cherish...

1. I desperately want to live by the ocean.

2. I keep little scissors in my car, and at my desk for when I see a split end.
I get really funny looks from the people in the cars next to me while sitting in traffic.

3. At any given moment I might decide to break out in song.

4. Once I get a restaurant or a type of food in my head I get perturbed if the plans suddenly change. It takes a long time for my taste buds to except the change. Sometimes they don’t even except it… they just go with the flow. But they’re not happy about it.

5. If Russ & I ever have a child, there’s a chance that it will go home from the hospital without a name. I’m really not sure if we’ll ever agree on anything. LOL...

6. I look forward to traveling to Europe one day. Sooner than later would be fab!

7. When I was 10 or 11 I would set up little scenes with my little teddy bears and take pictures. One time in particular, I made tiny newspapers and had them reading while having tea… all in a circle with sticks in the ground around them like a fence. I need to find those pictures. They are SO me.

8. I really enjoy music. I like all kinds.

9. We eat at this Mexican restaurant, Caliente almost once a week.

10. I love our friends. I love that because I don’t like hamburgers they’ve started buying chicken to throw on the grill when they do burgers. How awesome is that?!!?

11. I get easily annoyed with people who judge people before getting to know them. I could go on forever about this, but we’ll leave it at that.

12. I don’t remember the last time that I’ve been bored. I’m not even sure I remember how to be.

13. If your pets could take after you, like children do… our cat, Moses would take after me. LOL... it’s true. He’s quite and odd individual.

14. I’ve always wanted to take ballet.
Still to this day I would like to. I think it’s such a beautiful thing to watch.

15. We rarely eat dinner before 8 o’clock in the afternoon.

16. I have to write everything down because it WILL completely disappear from my head.
And if it doesn’t get written down, it’s gone forever. (Or until I randomly remember it, usually sometime after the importance of the actual information) No lie. I’ve come to believe that my brain can only contain a certain amount of information and it’s almost maxed out. Anything new that needs to be stored will have to be processed & approved before filling up any more space. Haha…

17. Target is one of my absolute favorite stores. I could stay there forever. They just know how to market to me and everything seems so wonderful. I’m also a sucker for those little red stickers. It really doesn’t make a difference if it’s only 15 cents off, if it has a red sticker it’s a great deal!

18. I cannot stand eating at places that have those nasty cafeteria cups that they pretend are clean. They freak me out and I get disgusted. It’s usually the pizza places where they let everyone and their mama walk by and touch the food before you get there to eat it.Yum, right!??!

19. I’m a major mulit-tasker. Honestly I’m not sure if I can only do one thing at a time. Maybe I should try it out sometime.

20. I can sing along with Beauty and the Beast for almost the whole entire movie. Some people find it entertaining.

21. I could eat pasta every day of my life and never get tired of it.

22. Sometimes I’ll keep the same cd playing in my car for a month or two. It doesn’t bother me.

23. I was homeschooled from 1st grade on. I went to kindergarten and told my mom I didn’t like waiting in line for everything. That’s not the reason I didn’t go back the next year, I just think it’s funny.

24. Fall is my favorite season. I’m not really sure why, I just love it.

25. Occasionally when I can’t find a bobby pin for my bangs I get flustered and use tape. I’ve forgotten about it and gone somewhere before I realized I had scotch tape in my hair. Pretty classy, huh?

Yes, I know… I’m a little late with posting the pictures…
but – better late then never!

I had a few people tell me the night before our big “Baton Rouge Sneaux Day” (that would’ve been the 11th of Dec… for those out of town followers…)

that they had heard that it was going to snow.
But, I was just thinking light flurries and it would melt when it hit the ground.
You know, like a true Louisiana snow.
Wasn’t I surprised to awaken to snow covered everything!!
I took a few snap shots with my eyes still pretty blurry…

thank God for auto focus, right?!?! LOL!
(I had only been asleep since 3 am. I was up working on orders and was on a roll!

Can’t stop mid-roll… who knows when it’ll come again)
Anyway. I had a ton of text’s from friends & family…

most starting with “I know your not awake yet, but…” :)
One friend said, “We knew you would be sleeping

and didn’t want you to miss it!” HAHAHA! So true. So true.

They know me well.
So. Our power went out around 8ish and I really tried to fall back asleep.

But, I decided to get up and head to the studio to take some pictures of

(and in) the fabulous SNOW!!…

I had my mom shoot the ones of me…
The last time it snowed like this I was 4!! So I thought I probably didn’t want to miss out… though, let me tell you that I wasn’t really feelin it. I mean 3 hours of sleep (we all know I love my sleep) and hair that really needed to be shampooed (hence the hat)… lol… AND I had to get dressed with a flashlight…. not too glamorous… but what good memories to have.

Sleep? ... what's that?

Yes. I’ve thought about this whole sleep schedule thing… I just think that I must not be wired that way. I think about stuff constantly… constantly.
I’m such the multi-tasker. And since I’m ALWAYS in multi-task mode, maybe my mind gets confused when it’s “time to go to bed” (who really knows what time your supposed to do that anyway. Right?!?!)
It’s like “heeyyy!!!!!!!!!!! Why aren’t you thinking about this!?!?” “or designing this” or even rearranging your room…”
I kid you not. Last night I was laying in the bed “reading” (lol. lately. “reading” is attempting to go through the 5,000 magazines that are piled up on the side of my bed… because I don’t have any other time to do anything with them!!)
And all of a sudden I was like… well, if I bought a chair we could put it there. And then maybe move a shelving thing in… I swear… this is the stuff I think of lying in bed at night (morning. Whatever)
I look forward to the day where I will lie down and just go to sleep…
But.
Until that day… You will read blog posts and receive returned emails that just may have the wee hours of the morning as the time stamp :)

We're back from New York! We had an awesome little getaway filled with fun, food and fab shopping... i, of course, snapped all kinds of cool pictures to scrapbook...
(um, i suppose i can catch up on that sometime while i'm sleeping - right!?!? ...lol)

I AM … so blessed.
I WANT… to sleep for an entire day and not feel bad about it.
I HAVE … a lot of things that I enjoy doing.
I KEEP … the fridge stocked with sugar free red bull and string cheese.
I WISH I COULD …make myself be a morning person.
I HATE … to drive in the rain.
I FEAR … I forget to make time for the important things.
I HEAR … the music that’s always in my head.
I DON’T THINK … that I’ll ever be able to wake up and make the bed regularly.
I REGRET … that I don’t work out like i should.
I LOVE … russ & all of the little quirky things that make him, him. Chili’s chocolate molten lava cakes. When I walk in the door and here “cherry!!!!” from little voices.
I AM NOT … going to be upset about not being able to sleep in tomorrow. or the next day, or the next.
I DANCE … not often enough.
I SING … really, really loud. Like, all of the time. Not only when I’m by myself.
I NEVER … watch commercials, thanks to our trusty tivo.
I RARELY … skip out on sushi.
I CRY WHEN I WATCH … other people cry. Or when I get really mad.
I’ M NOT ALWAYS … on time.
I HATE THAT … when I give blood or get a shot I always pass out. Never fails.

i brought the studio lights to my house for the storm... figured it would be a good time for me to shoot Moses' first session.

i've had a few pets in my life. but, he's definitely one of a kind. an extremely strange personality...

...you never really sit and think about until you don't have it... right!?!?

well. we made it through Gustav with only some minor wind damage. our fence at our house is laying on the ground and the yard at the studio looks like someone sprinkled green confetti everywhere... we're VERY lucky. there are trees down EVERYWHERE and the roads are a mess. Russ & i stayed with some friends in Central who have a generator... it was kinda like a mini vacation.

we were only without power for 2 days. but, i heard earlier on the news that 72% of Baton Rouge is still without electricity... and some area's are estimated to be without for weeks.

um. and yeah, the mosquito's are absolutely ridiculous!!! my legs look like i have a mild case of chicken pox... and they're saying that they'll only get worse... oh joy.

we'll be back in the studio monday (the 8th) for everyone that's wanting to get out... i know sitting around looking at each other gets a little lame... lol...
let me know if you want to come by. i'll probably spend most of the day calling clients - so just leave a message and i'll call ya back!

we'll be headed out of town again (for my BIRTHDAY!! YAY!!) on Friday
We're completely playing everything by ear - for obvious reason's, um... like we might not have power or we might need a boat to get to the studio... you know... things like that ;)

so. if you have an appointment with me during those days i suggest calling to confirm that we're still on. it's possible that i wont have computer access to check emails, so calling will be the best way to get in touch!
also. if your waiting to hear from me about your order being in or whatnot i will call you as soon as things settle down - hopefully Tues :)

The adventures of Cherish + Russ...

:) ok. so, in the craziness of last week i didn't make time to post that we would be out of the studio until the 28th. No biggie... normally i'd do that after i actually arrived at the location to where i would be. Well... Lol... i was unaware that our location would have NO INTERNET & by chance i found a spot that i had cell reception - so if you received a return call from me i was probably sitting on the window sil. HA!

Anyway. Russ & I had a quick trip to Maine to visit is dad & step mom who had rented a house by the beach. i actually lived in Maine as a child... so it was fun to revisit the state.

We visited some of the lighthouses along the coast and a few art museums... ate some "Lobsta" (ha ha ) and went kayaking in the ocean...

We were scheduled to arrive in New Orleans at 11pm on the 27th but, ran into a few issues leaving Portland which delayed our landing into the JFK airport and caused us to miss the last flight out.

ssssssssssssssoooooooooooooooooo... we added sleeping in an airport to the list of 1st time things
and got home around 10am on the 28th... fun fun.

Austin, New Orleans & Destin... OH MY!

:) I've been quite the traveler these past few weeks...

thought i'd share a few pictures with ya!

Mom & I headed to Austin to catch up with one of my fellow photog friends, Ana Brandt. This was her first time speaking at a convention like this... so, of course i needed to show her the love!

I actually met her at a conference in Cali (where she lives) a few years back. We've stayed in touch and try to see each other as often as possible.

The next week we spent a few days in NOLA with The Professional Photographers of LA.

I've been a member since i was 16.
it's so much fun to see old friends & meet new ones... it's ALWAYS a good time!!
we're a crazy group of people! LOL!
these next few pictures were actually taken in the bathroom of our hospitality suite... the light in the bathroom ROCKED!

mandy & shay, GK & our new friend sam & i decide to "model"...

every year there's an awards banquet... this year mom did all of the decor... check it out! i did the cute little pictures in the frames :)

...after the banquet a few of us headed out to Cafe' Du Monde for a late night beignet attack! love me some beignets!
we decide to take a quick stroll to the quarter where i bought (actually i think i had to borrow cash - but you know what i mean) my first Lucky Dog. never really been a fan of hot dogs, but... i must say it was pretty good! anyway. we went up to the 29th floor and hung out by the pool for a little while. :) until we were nicely asked to leave by the security guard! HA!

that weekend Russ & i left for Destin for a much needed "real" vacation!
We had a friends wedding to go to and decided to make a little getaway of it!

i know everyone knows i don't photograph weddings (...right!??!?!?... thought i'd make sure just in case there was any question. HA!)
but, i sure do love capturing the bridal portraits!
i love the one with the couch. the colors just blend so nicely.

meet ryan + rachel... they'll be getting married in december. ryan was actually my very first date. i was 13, does that really count as a date?? :) i dunno. but, we went to his homecoming together. the picture is hilarious... we literally stood next to each other with our hands by our sides.

very cute! lol.

Yesterday makes a week...

It's been a week since my cousin Christina's baby Karsyn was found to be without a heartbeat.
39 weeks pregnant... we never even had time to prepare ourselves for that day.
Sitting on her living room floor the night before, i had just gotten back from bringing her two older girls to the circus. We sat there going over the weekend plans - we had a family wedding in Mississippi on Saturday, so Christina had an appointment to go in in the morning to make sure everything was ok before heading out of town.
Wow. How fast our plans changed. Friday morning (the 27th) in the middle of a session i got the call that i needed to be at the hospital as soon as i could get there. They couldn't find Karsyn's heartbeat.

What an incredibly horrible feeling as you drive to a hospital that has always brought such joy. Family and friends continued to trickle in over hours… some not sure of the news. Such a tough conversation to have in a waiting room filled with other peoples family and friends awaiting their happy news. After going in and sitting with Christina for a while, it was time for everything to begin. I left the hospital to go get the camera equipment that would assist me in capturing the saddest session that I will hopefully ever have. As I left the studio I called my mom to check on the status. “She’s here” she said. “And she’s beautiful”. Just like I knew she would – she looked just like Kylie – but, with Kinleigh’s dark curly hair.

It’s hard to wrap your mind around something like this… to know that I was there when we found out she was a girl and to see her little heartbeat on the screen in the ultrasound room… never would you ever imagine this outcome.
Walking into the delivery room to see her – my mind was a wreck. Constantly trying to control the tears… failing miserably…
She was perfect in everyway. Ten little fingers, ten little toes… just beautiful.
They had found a knot in the cord.

We moved to a regular room and I set the equipment up. Not knowing how I would ever regain my composer on the inside. The only thing pulling me through was the thought of never having another chance to capture these moments. Our memories will fail… we’ll slowly forget how perfect her tiny feet were. Now we can always remember.

It’s been a really hard week to get through. I feel completely scattered… most days not really being able to focus on much… my emotions constantly up and down. I keep going over this quote “Our family is a circle of strength and love. With every birth and every union the circle grows. Every joy shared adds more love. Every crisis faced together makes the circle stronger.” such truth in those words.
I hope the saying “Time heals all wounds” is just as true… sadly I’m in disbelief at the moment.

every once in a while i have to schedule in time to "catch up" - no appts... just work on proofing sessions, orders and organize all of the many things that end up on my desk...

Wednesday was this day.

after going to the dentist ( had to add that cause i'm so happy that i'm cavity free... k, now back to the point of the blog. HA!) i sat here, in this very spot... and i sat here... thinking to myself - gosh! it seems like i've been here FOREVER!!!

you wanna know why it seemed like that??? oh, i know you do...

well, because it had been forever! (at least to me) 5 o'clock rolled around and by this time the rain had started , so i decided it was time for a break.

a MUCH needed one, i might add :)

here's a few shots from the rain... oh! and check out my snazzy new boots... can't get much cuter than that, huh!!??! yeah, i was beginning to get tired of pulling my heels out of the mud... imagine that! ;)

Thanks to ALL of my WONDERFUL clients that have made this Christmas season as stress free as possible... i really appreciate it!

I hope everyone has an amazing Christmas...

Russ and I will be visiting family up north. Hopefully the weather will cooperate with us... I'd LOVE to see some snow this year, i just don't really want to be stuck in an airport when i see it!!!

And just reminding ya'll... the studio WILL BE CLOSED December 19th-26th to spend time with my family :)

It's just plain NUTS over here this year.

so. sorry about slacking on the blog lately. but, i really enjoy my sleep... lol... so ya know... when it comes down to blogging or sleep... that's gonna win ANY DAY!!

I did, actually, take the day off! I know, huh?!!?
And i sure did eat like 6 different kinds of desserts... it was WONDERFUL!
Didn't wake up and do the whole "shop till ya drop" thing though. again... sleeping is a favorite hobby of mine lately ;)

...had too much fun playin in the "snow"... and we ended up having a few clients come in for a Traditional Christmas background too! Those came out cute as well!
